Hybridization of Salt Hydrates with Solid–Solid Phase Change Materials: A Novel Pathway to Sorption Thermochemical Materials Manufacturing

Major advancements are needed in the thermochemical energy storage (TCES) field to bring technology commercial levels. The current research strategies focused on improving heat and mass transfer using different supporting materials achieve mechanical integrity during storage. However, these still under development, they have not overcome lab scale yet. This work explores novel matrices expand material database for TCES composites. Pure structural (cellulose) with potential (polymeric solid–solid phase change materials) selected combined three well-known (TCMs) (MgSO4·6H2O, SrBr2·6H2O MgCl2·6H2O), providing evidence of hybridized composites capacity up 2.4 GJ m−3 a 25–20 wt% polymeric matrix. polymer content is found act as nucleating agent magnesium sulfate crystallization process forming synthetic monohydrate crystalline (Kieserite) inhibiting formation amorphous phase. effect matrix proved induce certain deformation or changes observed pure TCM sorption process. phenomenon has benefit stabilization TCM, e.g., inhibition
